Good deeds and good times…you can’t do the former without having the latter.  Within the membership of the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon, we’ve done many good deeds in our history and have had good times doing them.  We celebrate our 15^th Anniversary this year and have kept the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self”, at the forefront of all we do since 1994.

 

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio.

 

As we promote this year’s Rotary International theme, “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands”, we will focus our energies on expanding membership, effectively promoting Rotary in our community and continuing to do what Rotarians do best:  serve humanity.  A five-year strategic plan will be part of this effort which will help us identify new service opportunities and partnerships.

 

Examples of our humanitarian service in middle Georgia and beyond include our multi-year partnership with Macon Regional Crimestoppers, the Rotary Student-Teacher Recognition Programs with Vineville Academy and Alexander II Magnet School, the Cox GoodBooks Reading Program, the Feed 100 Families Thanksgiving Project, the Imagination Library/FERST Foundation Literacy Effort and a Walter Filtration Project in Belize.  We also provide essential funding for many non-profits in our community such as The Mentor’s Project, Macon Golf for Kids, the Georgia Industrial Children’s Home and the Boys and Girls Clubs.   

 

Many civic clubs only exist for members to fellowship with one another and some only to do certain projects in the local community.  The Rotary Club of Downtown Macon is a unique blend of both these attributes and at the same time, we’re expanding our reach throughout the state of Georgia and the world beyond. 

 

If you have a passion for serving others both locally and globally I hope you’ll visit us on Wednesdays at 12:30 pm in the Monument Room at the Macon Coliseum.  I guarantee you will learn about good deeds done and will have a good time being a part of a wonderful fellowship.
